PM to visit Malaysia, China on six-day official tour
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to undertake a six-day official visit to Malaysia and China from June 21 to 26, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties, expand trade cooperation and advance strategic partnerships with both countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the prime minister will first visit Malaysia on June 21–22 at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim before proceeding to China from June 23–26.
Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam briefed reporters at a press conference on Saturday (June 20), confirming the detailed itinerary of the high-level visit.
Malaysia leg: June 21–22
The Prime Minister will depart Dhaka on Sunday afternoon (June 21) aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines special flight. He is scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur in the evening and will be received with a ceremonial guard of honour.
On June 22, he will attend official welcoming ceremonies at Putrajaya, followed by a one-on-one meeting and delegation-level talks with his Malaysian counterpart. The two sides are expected to exchange multiple memoranda of understanding, including agreements on cultural cooperation and counterterrorism collaboration.
A joint press briefing is also scheduled, followed by meetings with senior Malaysian business leaders, including representatives of Petronas and AirAsia.
The prime minister will also pay a courtesy call on the Malaysian King during the visit.
China leg: June 23–26
On the same day, he will travel from Kuala Lumpur to Dalian, China. Upon arrival, he will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) sessions, including a high-level address on climate leadership in a changing global context.
During his stay in China, the prime minister is scheduled to meet global leaders and CEOs, including WEF officials and top executives of major Chinese state-owned enterprises.
Key engagements include participation in the Summer Davos meeting, bilateral discussions with heads of government, and high-level investment forums.
On June 25, he is expected to hold formal talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, followed by the signing of multiple memoranda of understanding and a state banquet.
On June 26, the prime minister will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People for a crucial bilateral summit before concluding the visit.
He is scheduled to return to Dhaka the same evening.
