PM to visit Ramisa’s family in Mirpur

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the family of seven-year-old Ramisa in the capital’s Pallabi area on this night.

Sources said the prime minister will travel to the family’s residence in Mirpur-11 after a cabinet meeting and meet Ramisa’s parents to express condolences and inquire about their condition.

The incident shocked the country after police on Tuesday recovered the child’s decapitated body from beneath a bed inside a flat in Pallabi. Her severed head was later found in the bathroom of the same apartment.

Police subsequently arrested the prime accused, Sohail Rana, along with his wife, Swapna Akter. Investigators said Sohail later gave a confessional statement before a court, admitting to raping and killing the child before attempting to conceal the body.

The killing has triggered protests and demonstrations across the country, with citizens demanding a speedy trial and the highest punishment for those responsible.
