PM urges all to ensure livable environment for future generations

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon everyone to play a responsible role in their respective positions to leave behind pollution-free rivers and a clean, livable environment for future generations.

He made the call at a review meeting on the control and management of pollution of the rivers surrounding the capital at the Secretariat on Sunday, September 6.

The meeting discussed in detail the pollution control, waste removal, conservation and management of the Buriganga, Turag, Dhaleshwari, Balu and Shitalakkhya rivers, along with their connected canals and drains, ensuring navigability and the development of a circular waterway around Dhaka.

The Prime Minister directed effective initiatives to be taken for the swift implementation of the plans taken so far. He also stressed the need to ensure proper coordination among relevant ministries, departments and agencies in carrying forward the activities.

Tarique Rahman said efforts must be made to leave behind pollution-free rivers and a livable environment not just for ourselves but for future generations. He added that everyone must act from a sense of personal responsibility, not just rely on government directives.

The meeting was attended by Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, Industries and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister for LGRD and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, State Minister for Shipping Md Razib Ahsan, State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam and Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Dr Saimum Parvez.

Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Commander Dhaka Naval Area Rear Admiral Abdullah-Al-Maksus, secretaries of the relevant ministries and divisions, administrators of Dhaka South, Narayanganj and Gazipur city corporations and other senior officials were also present.
