PM urges citizens to follow Ziaur Rahman’s ideals
Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has called on citizens to take inspiration from the ideals of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and contribute to the country's development.
Speaking before distributing clothing and dry food among underprivileged people in the capital's ECB Chattar and Kuril areas, Tarique Rahman said Ziaur Rahman had dedicated his political life to serving the nation and standing beside its people on Saturday.
“Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s political objective was to serve the country and support its people. He also taught us how to work for the nation and build the country,” the prime minister said.
He added that the distribution programme was part of efforts to uphold those values and extend support to people in need.
Referring to the national election held on February 12, Tarique Rahman said the government had been given an opportunity to work for the country's development and welfare.
“Through the February 12 election, Almighty Allah has given us the opportunity to build the country and stand beside the people. We pray for His blessings so that we can fulfill that responsibility properly. Let this be our pledge and commitment today,” he said.
After delivering his remarks, the prime minister distributed clothing and dry food items among disadvantaged residents.
Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman paid tribute to Ziaur Rahman by placing a wreath at his grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, marking the 45th anniversary of the former president’s death.
Senior BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, and AZM Zahid Hossain, were present during the tribute ceremony.
According to party sources, the prime minister is scheduled to participate in clothing and food distribution programmes at 17 locations across Dhaka as part of the commemoration activities.
