Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has issued a stern warning to all ministers against using their VIP status to bypass traffic signals, following an incident where a cabinet member reportedly asked police to let his vehicle pass.

Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain disclosed the matter on Sunday, July 5, while speaking at a preparatory meeting for the inauguration of the new building of the National Neuroscience Hospital in the capital.

"One minister was stuck at a traffic signal. He told his gunman to tell the sergeant that the minister was there and to let him pass. The matter reached the prime minister's ears. In the cabinet meeting, he mentioned that a minister had done this and said, 'I don't want to hear this ever again, so be careful,'" the health minister said.

He also highlighted the prime minister's own example of discipline, saying Tarique Rahman stops his car at signals to teach ministers and officials to respect traffic rules and avoid arrogance.

"If the people of this country cannot develop the nation under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, no other prime minister will be able to. Why? Because we are afraid of him. He works at the Secretariat, leaving aside such a large palace. He does it to teach us discipline. Since he started sitting there, our hearts haven't stopped racing," Sakhawat said.

The health minister urged everyone to follow the prime minister's example and cooperate in building the country.
