PM warns of stern action against any attempt to create anarchy

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has warned that any attempt to create anarchy in the country by exploiting the various crises left behind by the previous autocratic government will be dealt with strictly under the existing law.

He made the remarks at a discussion meeting on the occasion of the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at the Krishibid Institution (KIB) auditorium in the capital on Saturday evening, September 5. BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi presided over the meeting.

"We want to build a humane state and a sustainable democracy where people will have the right to speak," the Prime Minister said. However, he noted that some individuals and political parties were attempting to spread confusion and create anarchy by exploiting the problems left behind by the previous government.

Referring to the 16 years of autocratic rule, the Prime Minister said one political party had disguised itself during that period. "Are the autocrats hiding inside those disguises now to instigate this anarchy?" he asked. Those who want to create confusion and anarchy must be clearly told that the people have entrusted this government with running the country. "We will uphold democratic norms. But if anyone tries to create anarchy, the law has provisions to control it. Everyone must stay within their limits," he said.

Acknowledging the energy crisis and power shortages, the Prime Minister said they had inherited a fragile economy and energy system. "I apologise on behalf of the party to the common people and industrialists suffering from power outages. We do not just want to give excuses. The government is implementing action plans so that such crises do not occur in the future," he added.
