PM's Gulshan residence declared top-tier Key Point Installation

The government has declared Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's residence in Gulshan a Special Category Key Point Installation (KPI), granting it the highest level of security protection as it currently serves as the prime minister's official workplace.

According to official sources, the recommendation to designate the residence at House No. 196, Gulshan as a Special Category KPI was approved at a meeting of the Key Point Installation Designation Committee (KPIDC) on June 7. Following government approval, a notification was issued on June 15, while the gazette was published on July 3.

Although the state guest house Jamuna remains available for official use, the prime minister has been carrying out state affairs from the Gulshan residence, prompting the enhanced security designation.

Under the new security framework, a dedicated security committee will be formed under the coordination of the Special Security Force (SSF). Members of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) will provide round-the-clock internal security, supported by specially trained police personnel.

The security guidelines require the residence to be enclosed by a boundary wall at least 12 feet high, topped with an additional three-foot Y-shaped barbed-wire barrier. Authorities will also assess potential security risks posed by nearby high-rise buildings, including surveillance, photography and possible attack vulnerabilities, and take necessary preventive measures.

The guidelines further stipulate that construction of new high-rise buildings within a 150 to 300-metre radius of the residence will require prior clearance from the relevant authorities, while no new structures will be permitted within 25 metres of the premises. Authorities will also remove trees, electricity poles and telephone poles deemed to pose security risks.

Officials said the decision was taken to ensure the security of the prime minister and his family, while safeguarding sensitive state documents, official information and government operations conducted from the residence.
