'Pole vault jump' need to improve education sector: Education Minister
Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan has emphasised the need for a transformative approach in the education sector, describing it as requiring a “pole vault jump” rather than a simple “high jump.”
He made the remarks on his first day in office while responding to journalists’ questions at the Secretariat on Wednesday (February 18).
“Education requires a bigger leap, not just incremental improvement. Through a pole vault jump, we aim to bring substantial change and modernise the education system,” the minister said.
He added that he had previously worked with former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and noted that current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman values education highly and will prioritize it.
Responding to questions on corruption and recruitment syndicates in the education sector, Dr. Milan said, “Just as transparency was maintained during 2001-2006, we will not tolerate any irregularities this time. We are committed to eradicating corruption.”
He added that the government is prepared to face public and media scrutiny to ensure accountability and integrity in the sector.
