The police are working to identify the real culprits of Jamaat leader Rezaul Karim's death in Sherpur's Jhenaigati election violence, said Deputy Press Secretary of Chief Adviser Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar.

He said that the real criminals will be identified and brought under the law without arresting people in mass.

In a press conference organized at Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday (January 29), he said that the criminals are being identified by analyzing the video footage, information and evidence of the incident.

After the burial of the deceased Rezaul Karim, the police will talk to his family. If the family files a case, the case will be filed on the basis of the statement, otherwise the police will take action on their own responsibility.

Azad Majumder said, there were many people there during yesterday's incident. "We are not carrying out sweeping arrests, rather action is being taken to identify those who are really responsible. No one should be subjected to undue harassment, genuine criminals should not be spared."

When asked about the time frame for arresting the criminals, he said, it is not possible to say precisely.

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, there is still tolerance between political parties. A few isolated incidents cannot be denied.

He said that four people have died as policemen since the election date was announced. Violence is still much lower than in the 2014 elections, and political parties are conscious and law-abiding. He expressed hope that the situation will improve in the coming days and the situation will be under control with the continuous deployment of law and order forces.
