Police Association concerned over controversial remarks of inspector
Bangladesh Police Association (BPA) has expressed concern over the controversial statement made by a senior officer of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
The organization said that the statements of police members and officers should always reflect professionalism, restraint and institutional values.
In a statement on Saturday, the BPA said that Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan exchanged views with the local people on the law and order situation at a public meeting organized in the Luanthara police station area of Khulna metropolis on June 17. While assuring that the identity of the informant would be kept secret if information about criminals was given at the event, he said that if any information was leaked after being given to the police station inspector, he himself would ‘hang the inspector from a tree’, and later the people would ‘beat him up’.
After the statement spread on social media, there was widespread discussion and reaction among the police members. In view of this, the Bangladesh Police Association officially expressed its concern.
In a statement, the organization mentioned that every statement made by responsible officers in front of the public should be such that it further strengthens the dignity, discipline and public trust of the force. Bangladesh Police has been serving the public with professionalism, patience and responsibility in recent years, facing various challenges. In this situation, it is very important to maintain the morale, professional security and mutual respect of the members.
The Police Association also said that concerns and dissatisfaction have arisen among members of different levels of the force over the discussed statement. Many have expressed their opinions considering the matter as sensitive.
The statement said that if there is a complaint, negligence of duty or irregularity against any member, it should be resolved through existing laws, departmental regulations and organizational processes. Any comment or action outside the institutional framework can tarnish the professional image of the force.
The organization has called for more caution, responsibility and restraint in the statements of officers and members at all levels in the future. At the same time, it has emphasized on maintaining mutual respect and a positive working environment to uphold the unity, discipline, dignity and professional image of the police force.
