Police find preliminary truth in allegation of sexual abuse of madrasa student in tongi, vice principal in jail
Police have found preliminary truth in the allegation of sexual abuse of a seven-year-old madrasa student in Tongi of Gazipur. The child has given a statement in court in the case filed over the incident. The court has ordered the accused madrasa vice principal Md Moslem Uddin to be sent to jail.
Tongi West Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Arif Hossain informed this on Saturday (October 24).
Police have said that the child gave a statement before the judge at Gazipur Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday. On the same day Moslem Uddin was shown arrested in the case filed by the child’s father and sent to court, where the judge ordered him to be sent to jail.
Two cases have been filed at Tongi West Thana over the allegation of sexual abuse of the child and the incident of assault on the teacher and vandalism at the madrasa. OC Arif Hossain has said that preliminary investigation has found truth in both incidents. The final investigation report will be submitted to the court after completion.
According to the case, vice principal Moslem Uddin has been accused of sexually abusing the Class 1 student of ‘Qariul Quran International Madrasa’ in Madhya Auchpara area of Tongi on Monday. The case has also mentioned that the child was threatened with beating not to tell anyone about the incident. Frightened by this, the child stopped going to the madrasa for three consecutive days.
Later when family members asked, the child informed her parents about the physical harassment that happened to her. When the matter became known, anger was created among the locals.
On Wednesday noon the child’s father went to the madrasa and asked vice principal Moslem Uddin about the incident. At that time several other people gathered in the madrasa premises. At one stage the child’s father punched the teacher. Later others present there also beat him. Several teachers of the madrasa tried to protect Moslem Uddin at that time.
Upon receiving the news Tongi West Thana police went to the spot, rescued the teacher from the public and took him into their custody.
When a video of the incident spread on social media, discussion and criticism started across the country. After that the child’s father filed a case over the allegation of sexual abuse of the child and the madrasa authorities filed a separate case over the assault on the teacher and vandalism at the madrasa.
In the case filed by the madrasa authorities, allegation of looting Tk 17 lakh during the attack and vandalism has also been brought against the child’s father and the people with him.
Madrasa founder and principal Barijul Alamgir Hossain has claimed that a 15-member group led by a guardian entered the madrasa and carried out attack, vandalism, assault on teachers, outraging of modesty and looted nearly Tk 17 lakh. He has also alleged that the child’s father created a ‘mob’ situation at the madrasa.
However, late on Friday night the child’s father held a press conference at his home and denied these allegations. He has said that he went to the madrasa not to create a ‘mob’ situation but to seek justice for what happened to his daughter.
He has also denied the allegation of looting money and demanded proper investigation of the allegations brought against him and justice for his daughter’s incident.
