Police foils DUCSU march to besiege Home Adviser’s office

A protest march organised by the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) to besiege the Home Adviser’s office was halted by police on Monday (December 15), escalating tensions on the streets of the capital.
The protesters demands include the arrest of those involved in the attempted killing of Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi, the recovery of illegal firearms nationwide, and the detention of militants linked to banned organisations.
The programme began around 11:45am from the DUCSU office, with protesters heading toward the Home Adviser’s office.
They were first stopped by police barricades at Doel Chattar around 1:20pm and again near the High Court shrine after attempting to move forward. A third barricade halted the march at the Secretariat-bound road beside the Education Building, where protesters remained, chanting various slogans.
Later, a 10-member delegation led by DUCSU Vice-President Abu Sadik Kayem proceeded toward the Home Adviser’s office at about 1:45pm.
The programme was announced on Sunday by DUCSU Literary and Cultural Secretary Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad, who called for student participation.
The protest follows the shooting of Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Sharif Osman Hadi in Old Paltan last Friday, a day after the election schedule was announced. Hadi was flown to Singapore for advanced treatment in this afternoon.
