Police have raised a nationwide security alert over a possible bomb attack

Bangladesh Police Headquarters has ordered a heightened security posture across the country following information suggesting the possibility of a bomb attack.

The directive was issued on Friday (7 August) night, with police personnel in all districts and police ranges instructed to remain on maximum alert and respond swiftly to any suspicious development.

According to sources at Police Headquarters, officers deployed for night patrols, mobile teams and security duties at checkpoints have been told to exercise extra caution while carrying out their assignments.

They have also been directed to immediately inform their senior officers about any unusual movement, suspicious object or incident that could pose a security threat.

The nationwide alert has been conveyed to different police units through wireless communications and special instructions issued to the heads of the respective units.

Police authorities have also stressed the need for increased vigilance during night-time operations as part of precautionary measures in view of the reported threat.

Officials said all concerned units have been asked to maintain close coordination and take necessary action promptly if any suspicious activity is detected.
