Police personnel closed over allegations of attacking journalists
Several police personnel have been closed over allegations of unprofessional conduct towards journalists, which occurred while trying to disperse a gathering in front of the Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus's residence, Jamuna.
DMP Ramna Division's Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam confirmed the information on Saturday, January 7.
Additionally, police personnel involved in making obscene gestures towards protesters during the incident have also been closed.
DC Masud Alam said, "While attempting to control protesters yesterday, several police members behaved unprofessionally with journalists. They have been identified and already closed. An investigation is ongoing regarding them. If it is found that this conduct was intentional, departmental action will be taken against them."
He further stated, "Obscene comments and gestures made by some police members towards the protesters have come to the notice of the force. They have already been closed. The matter is under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against them."
It is noteworthy that on Friday, January 6, around 4:30 pm, during a chase and counter-chase between police and supporters of Inqilab Stage in the Hotel Intercontinental area of the capital, journalists on duty were attacked. View Bangladesh's multimedia reporter, Sudeb Kumar Bishwas, was injured in the incident.
