Police probe ‘mysterious’ envelope attached to Tarique Rahman’s vehicle
Police have launched an investigation after an unidentified motorcyclist allegedly attached a “mysterious” envelope to a moving bulletproof vehicle carrying BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in Dhaka’s Gulshan area before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred around 11:45pm on Wednesday (January 14) on Road No. 65 in Gulshan. At the time, Tarique Rahman was inside a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250 bulletproof vehicle, escorted by his personal security force (CSF) forming a security cordon in front of and behind the car.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner for Gulshan Division Rawnak Alam told reporters on Sunday (January 18) that the motorcyclist involved has not yet been identified and the matter is being investigated with due seriousness.
According to police sources, the rider approached the vehicle at speed, taped a white envelope to the body of the car using adhesive tape, and immediately fled. Authorities have not disclosed the contents of the envelope.
A general diary (GD) has been filed with Gulshan Police Station in connection with the incident. A senior police officer said CCTV footage from surrounding areas has been collected, though the images are unclear.
The officer added that the envelope has not yet been handed over to police and is currently in the custody of Tarique Rahman’s security team.
