Police urge caution over disinformation against key figures on social media

The Police Headquarters has said that disinformation, provocative and motivated propaganda is being spread against police officials and key government figures on Facebook and other social media platforms. The authorities have urged everyone to remain vigilant on this matter.

The information was conveyed in a press release issued by Police Headquarters on Friday, August 7.

The statement said a vested group is currently engaged in a planned campaign spreading false, fabricated, misleading and provocative information against senior officials of Bangladesh Police and other key government figures.

Police Headquarters claimed that "fallen fascist forces and their domestic and foreign allies" are carrying out this propaganda with the aim of creating confusion among the public, destabilising the law and order situation, undermining the morale of the police force and tarnishing the government's image.

The release also said Bangladesh Police is currently taking legal action against the now-banned political party and is not entertaining the undue lobbying of those spreading propaganda. As a result, a disgruntled group is engaged in spreading fabricated information.

Police Headquarters has urged the public not to believe, share or forward any misleading or provocative statements on social media without verification.

The public has also been requested to play a responsible role in preventing rumours and propaganda. Police have also warned that strict legal action will be taken against those found engaged in such propaganda.

Police Headquarters said the Bangladesh Police continues to perform its duties with professionalism and dedication to maintain law and order and ensure public safety while upholding a relationship of trust with the people.
