Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has commented that political influence has played a role in the preparation of the list of victims of genocide and martyrs of the Liberation War in the past. He said, "Those who had this responsibility after independence could not complete the task impartially and correctly. Therefore, the government has taken a new initiative to prepare an accurate and acceptable list."

The Prime Minister said these things in response to a question from Pirojpur-3 constituency MP Md. Ruhul Amin Dulal during the Question and Answer Session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday (July 15). Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal presided over the session.

The Prime Minister said, "The government's election manifesto has promised to prepare a complete list of martyrs of the Liberation War based on intensive research. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has already taken various initiatives to implement that commitment."

He said that these initiatives include organizing expert meetings with Liberation War researchers, continuous discussions with relevant stakeholders, and formulating and implementing a realistic action plan based on those discussions.

The Prime Minister said, "Innumerable people were victims of genocide in the Liberation War. But even after so many years of independence, it has not been possible to formulate a complete and accurate list of them."

"The country's independence was achieved only in exchange for the sacrifices of these martyrs. Therefore, formulating an acceptable and accurate list is very important to ensure their proper recognition and dignity," he added.

Tareq Rahman believes that if this initiative is implemented, the sacrifices of all the martyrs and the victims of genocide in the Liberation War will receive due state recognition.
