The interim government on Tuesday cancelled the postponed Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations across the country following the demand of the candidates. Confirming the news the Dhaka Education Board chairman professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar told New Age that the method of preparing the results of the examinations would be decided later. He also said that the previously held exams would not be cancelled. The students stormed into the secretariat around 2:00pm on the day after earlier on the day decisions were taken to defer the postponed exams from September 11 and reduce the number of questions. The exams, which were originally scheduled to be held between June 30 and August 21.

শিক্ষার্থীদের আন্দোলনের মুখে চলমান এইচএসসি ও সমমান পরীক্ষার বাকি বিষয়গুলোর পরীক্ষা বাতিল ঘোষণা করেছে শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয়। আজ মঙ্গলবার এক সভায় এ সিদ্ধান্ত হয়েছে বলে গণমাধ্যমকে জানিয়েছেন ঢাকা শিক্ষা বোর্ডে চেয়ারম্যান অধ্যাপক তপন কুমার সরকার। এর আগে এসব বিষয়ের পরীক্ষার বিষয়ে অন্তর্বর্তী সরকারের শিক্ষা উপদেষ্টা ওয়াহিদউদ্দিন মাহমুদের সভাপতিত্বে একটি বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। বৈঠকে সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়, বাকি বিষয়গুলোর পরীক্ষা অর্ধেক প্রশ্নোত্তরে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। আর পুনরায় পরীক্ষা শুরুর তারিখ ১১ সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে আরও দুই সপ্তাহ পেছানো হবে। তবে শিক্ষার্থীরা এ সিদ্ধান্ত মেনে নেননি। পরীক্ষা বাতিলের দাবিতে দুপুর থেকে সচিবালয়ে অবস্থান করেন তারা, বাকি পরীক্ষাগুলো বাতিল চান। কারণ তারা মনে করেন, অনেক শিক্ষার্থী আহত হয়ে চিকিৎসা নিচ্ছেন এবং অনেকে নানাভাবে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছেন। অবশেষে তাদের দাবির মুখে বাকি বিষয়গুলোর পরীক্ষা বাতিল করা হলো। ওই বিষয়গুলোর মার্কিং কীভাবে হবে তা পরে জানানো হবে বলে মন্ত্রণালয় সূত্রে জানা গেছে।
