Security has been tightened across the capital and the country over fears of militant attacks on various key installations, including the National Parliament building. Officials of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit have said they are fully prepared to tackle any such situation.

The warning was issued following information about communication between a recently arrested member of a banned extremist organisation and two dismissed members of the security forces.

At a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Saturday, April 25, CTTC Joint Commissioner Munshi Shahabuddin said a cyber intelligence team is actively analysing the threat. "We have received the information and are working on it. However, no specific group or individual has been identified yet," he said.

According to the Police Headquarters order, the individuals concerned may be planning attacks using explosives, sharp weapons, or firearms on various sensitive installations, including the National Parliament complex, police and army installations, places of worship, entertainment venues, and Shahbagh intersection.

Shahabuddin urged the public not to panic. "There is no reason to be afraid. We are working on this. Insha Allah, we will be able to deal with it," he said.

The letter, sent from Police Headquarters to various units on 23 April, also mentioned that regular contact had been established between Ishtiaq Ahmed Sami (also known as Abu Bakkar or Abu Mohammad), a recently arrested member of a banned extremist organisation, and two dismissed members of a security force.

When asked about the number of armed forces personnel arrested for militant links, the CTTC official said he currently had no specific information beyond what had been reported in the media.

Meanwhile, additional police personnel have been deployed and surveillance increased around key government buildings, KPI areas, and public gathering spots.
