Power purchase deal with Adani under a review: Energy Minister
Bangladesh is reviewing its 2017 power purchase agreement with India’s Adani Power (Jharkhand) Limited, Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku told parliament on Thursday (April 2).
Responding in writing to a question from lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury during the National Parliament session, the minister said the agreement was previously examined by a national committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge.
The panel included experts in energy, law, economics, and chartered accountancy.
“The review revealed that the previous Awami League government signed the deal at prices significantly higher than domestic and international market rates,” he said.
Iqbal Hasan Mahmud added that the government is now considering two options to amend the agreement: either resolve the issue through an international arbitration tribunal or renegotiate directly with Adani Power.
