President holds first meeting with Election Commission at Bangabhaban

A five-member delegation of the Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban on Thursday (August 27) .

This was the first meeting between the newly appointed President and the Election Commission since he assumed office . The delegation included Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah, and Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed .

During the meeting, the Election Commission briefed the President on its overall activities and various election-related matters. It also apprised him of the preparations for the upcoming local government elections and the commission's prospective plans, as earlier announced by Commissioner Masud.

Prior to this, President Alamgir was elected as the 23rd President of Bangladesh on August 20, securing 255 votes in the parliamentary election. He took the oath of office on August 21.

The current Election Commission assumed office in November 2024 and has since completed several key electoral activities, including updating the voter list, delimiting constituencies, and conducting the national parliamentary and presidential elections. The commission is now preparing to hold the local government elections in phases.
