President Mirza Fakhrul begins first official day at Bangabhaban

Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has begun his official activities at Bangabhaban for the first time since taking oath. On his first working day on Sunday, he sat in his office and signed official documents, followed by signing the visitors' book.

Earlier, around 11am, the President entered through Gate No. 2 of Bangabhaban. A smartly turned-out mounted contingent of Bangladesh Police accorded him a ceremonial reception.

Later, at the Credential Field of Bangabhaban, a smart contingent of the President's Guard Regiment of Bangladesh Army presented the President with a Guard of Honour.

After the Guard of Honour, the President and his family members were welcomed with flowers at the Octagonal of Bangabhaban by Military Secretary to the President Major General A S M Bahauddin, Secretary of the Public Relations Division A J M Salahuddin Nagari, Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam, and Commander of the President's Guard Regiment Brigadier General Golam Arikul Alam.

On Friday evening, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as the 23rd President of the country at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban. Acting Speaker of the National Parliament Kayser Kamal administered his oath. With this, his formal assumption of the highest constitutional office was completed.

On Saturday, he paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial, officially marking the start of his presidential duties.

Earlier, on Thursday, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected President with 255 votes in the parliamentary election. His only rival, Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party and candidate of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami, received 88 votes.
