President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrives at Bangabhaban

Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived at Bangabhaban on Sunday (August 23) to begin his first official working day as the country's 23rd president.

He reached Bangabhaban shortly after 11am and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR).

The President's Press Wing confirmed the development.

Earlier, at around 10:50am, the president left his official residence on Hare Road for Bangabhaban in a motorcade.

Mirza Fakhrul was elected president on Thursday (August 20) as the candidate nominated by the ruling BNP and supported by an 11-party alliance, defeating the alliance’s rival candidate, Col (retd) Oli Ahmed. His election was officially gazetted the same day.

He took oath as the country's 23rd president on Friday (August 21).
