President Mirza Fakhrul’s first Sylhet visit set for Tuesday
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will make a one-day official visit to Sylhet on Tuesday (September 15), his first trip to the region since assuming office.
The civil and police administrations have stepped up preparations across Sylhet city, with security and logistical arrangements finalized ahead of the presidential visit.
According to the official itinerary, the President will arrive in Sylhet on Tuesday morning and offer prayers at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shahparan (R). He will then attend a civic reception hosted by the Sylhet City Corporation at 3pm before returning to Dhaka in the evening.
On Sunday, SCC Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury inspected infrastructure and beautification work around the Shahparan shrine to assess preparations for the visit. He was accompanied by senior municipal engineers.
“Sylhet is a city of historic and tourist importance. We are prioritizing all operational aspects to ensure the President experiences the city seamlessly,” Chowdhury said after the inspection.
Meanwhile, the Sylhet Metropolitan Police has intensified security measures across the city. SMP Commissioner Sarwar Murshed Shamim chaired a coordination meeting on Saturday, focusing on traffic management, intelligence gathering, route security and coordination among law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
