President Mirza Fakhrul's Thakurgaon-1 seat declared vacant, by-election to be held

The parliamentary seat of Thakurgaon-1, represented by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has been declared vacant following his assumption of office as the 23rd President of the country. A by-election will be held for the seat.

The information was confirmed in a notification issued on Saturday (August 22), signed by Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Legislative Support Wing (Law-making Branch-2) of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat.

The notification stated that the seat has become vacant from the date of his assumption of office on August 21, in accordance with Article 50(4) of the Constitution, as Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the MP elected from constituency No. 3, Thakurgaon-1, in the 13th Parliament, has taken office as President.

The notification has been ordered to be published in an extra edition of the Bangladesh Gazette. A copy has also been sent to the Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat to take necessary steps to arrange a by-election in the vacant seat.

Copies of the notification have also been sent to the Cabinet Secretary, the Prime Minister's Office, the offices of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition, and other relevant departments for information and necessary action.
