President Mohammed Shahabuddin has left Dhaka for the United Kingdom for medical treatment and follow-up health examinations.
He departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 7:45am on Saturday morning (May 9), aboarding a regular Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-201), according to the Bangabhaban Press Wing.
Before departure, senior government officials including the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, members of the diplomatic corps, including the British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke, and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Foreign Ministry and Bangabhaban were present at the airport to see him off.
Members of his family, physicians, nursing staff and Bangabhaban officials are accompanying the President on the trip.
The President underwent cardiac bypass surgery in Singapore in October 2023. Officials said the UK visit is part of his scheduled follow-up medical care at a specialised hospital.
He is expected to return to Bangladesh on May 18 after completing his treatment.
