President to cast vote by postal ballot

President Mohammad Shahabuddin will cast his vote in the 13th parliamentary election and referendum through a postal ballot.

Senior Secretary to the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the matter to journalists on Tuesday, saying the president’s office has already contacted the commission and necessary arrangements will be made.

Three categories of voters within the country—government employees, members of law enforcement agencies and prisoners—are eligible to vote by postal ballot this time. In addition, expatriate voters in 122 countries are also casting their votes by post.

In total, more than 1.53 million voters have registered to vote through postal ballots. Voting for the 13th parliamentary election and referendum will take place on February 12 from 7:30am to 4:30pm.
