President Md Sahabuddin has urged district commissioners to perform their duties with greater dedication to serving the people. He said that while field administration officials are representatives of the government, they are above all servants of the people, and this must always be remembered.

He made the call while speaking at an event organised on the occasion of the District Commissioners' Conference 2026 at Bangabhaban on Sunday evening, May 3 .

The president paid deep respect to the martyrs and valiant freedom fighters of Bangladesh's Liberation War, saying their sacrifices are a source of eternal inspiration for the nation. He also recalled the contributions of national leaders, including the proclaimer of independence, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

The president said the DC conference serves as a vital bridge between government policy formulation and its implementation. It creates opportunities for exchanging views on field-level problems and prospects, enabling effective decision-making.

Noting that people's expectations have risen significantly in the current context, the president said public trust must be earned by building a transparent, accountable and service-oriented administration. Public interest must be given the highest priority in implementing development projects.

The president also instructed DCs to hear public grievances and resolve them swiftly. He emphasised increasing the use of information technology to deliver easy, fast and quality services to people's doorsteps.

He stressed the need to address energy crises, strengthen market monitoring, and take effective steps to control commodity prices in light of the global situation. He also directed ensuring proper use of public funds and preventing wastage.

The president further said the administration must remain vigilant in curbing rumours, misinformation and cybercrime, and increase coordination with law enforcement agencies. He also called for modernising land management, protecting women and children, developing youth skills, controlling drugs, and taking a firm stance against corruption.

He called for implementing a 'zero tolerance' policy against corruption by ensuring transparency and accountability at all levels of administration.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Munshiganj District Commissioner Syeda Noor Mohal Ashrafi, and Chattogram District Commissioner Mohammad Jahidul Islam Mia also spoke at the event. Secretaries of the president's office and senior military and civil officials were also present.
