President’s call on BGB to be more active in stopping smuggling, drug trafficking and border killings

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to further strengthen surveillance in the border areas to stop smuggling, drug trafficking, push-in and border killings. At the same time he has praised the responsible role of BGB in the border protection of the country.

The President said these during the courtesy call of BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui on the President at Bangabhaban on Monday (August 31). Press Secretary to the President Md Sarwar Alam confirmed the matter.

At the meeting the BGB Director General greeted the President after taking charge. At the same time he informed the President about the border situation, the overall activities of the force and various initiatives taken to strengthen security.

Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui informed that an initiative has been taken to add modern technology including ultra-modern drones in BGB to increase surveillance at the border. He also highlighted the plan of further making the suppression of crimes and security at the border more effective through technology-dependent surveillance.

The President said the role of BGB is extremely important in preventing smuggling, drugs and human trafficking at the border. Alongside he called on the force to take more effective steps to stop incidents like push-in and border killings.

Welcoming the initiative of using modern technology in border protection the President praised BGB and gave the assurance of necessary cooperation from the side of the government in this regard. Senior officials of Bangabhaban including the Secretary to the President were present during the meeting.
