President's parliament address constitutionally mandated: Home Minister

The constitution provides for the President to address parliament sessions, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has commented.

He further stated that the President is not an individual but an institution.

He made these remarks on Friday, March 6, at a training workshop for party members of parliament held at the party chairman's office in Gulshan.

The Home Minister said, "We want to make this parliament memorable. The nation has high expectations from this parliament. The National Parliament must be strengthened so that we can fulfil the aspirations of the student-public mass uprising."

He further added, "There is no provision for the opposition party to submit a written proposal for the Deputy Speaker's position. We have shown generosity. I believe Jamaat should accept it generously."
