President's resignation accepted: Speaker
Speaker of the National Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has accepted President Md. Shahabuddin's resignation. He gave this information at a press briefing held at the National Parliament Building on Friday afternoon.
The Speaker said, "I have accepted the President's resignation."
He said that around 4 pm on Friday, the President's Military Secretary, Major General ASM Bahauddin, delivered the President's signed resignation to his office in the National Parliament.
In the press briefing, the Speaker said, "The President resigned due to serious illness. Due to the disease, he sometimes fainted. Due to this, he resigned as he was physically unable to perform his duties. He needs long-term treatment.
Regarding the duties of the Acting President, the Speaker said, "The day I took oath as Speaker, I also took oath as Acting President on the same day. This matter is mentioned in the oath. The post of President never remains vacant."
Earlier, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad cut short his personal visit to Thailand amid speculation about the President's resignation. He later officially confirmed the acceptance of the President's resignation.
