Students of government and private primary and secondary schools and madrasas across the country returned to their classrooms today after a long break.

Regular classes resumed at these institutions today, Monday (October 26), after a 10-day break that combined Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, government holidays and weekends. College students, however, will have to wait a few more days. Classes at colleges will begin on November 1.

According to the 2026 annual holiday calendar, the holidays for schools and madrasas began on October 18. Students had already got a head start with the weekend holidays on October 16 and 17. After the scheduled holidays ended, the institutions remained closed until October 25 because of the weekend and Lakshmi Puja.

With the holidays over, teachers and students are back to regular academic activities from today. Classroom teaching and other normal operations of the institutions have resumed.

Colleges follow a different holiday schedule. According to the annual holiday list approved by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, colleges are closed from October 18 to 29 for Durga Puja, Bijoya Dashami, Probarana Purnima and Lakshmi Puja.

After the holidays end on Thursday, October 29, Friday and Saturday (October 30 and 31) are weekly holidays. As a result, regular classes at government and private colleges will begin on Sunday, November 1, after the long break.
