The government will begin distributing school uniforms and jute-made bags to students of government primary schools from July.

Prime Minister’s Adviser and Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin confirmed the initiative at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Wednesday (April 22).

He said the programme will initially be launched on a pilot basis. In the first phase, first-grade students in two schools from each upazila across the country will receive uniforms and jute bags.

Schools will be selected through local administration, he added.

The government aims to reach at least 1,00,000 students in the first month of implementation.

Mahdi Amin said the initiative is being implemented through coordination among three ministries, with a focus on promoting locally produced goods while ensuring equity and inclusion for students in rural and marginal areas.

Meanwhile, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said a standardised uniform will be introduced in all primary schools.

He added that while the design will remain uniform, there will be variations in clothing and bag types for boys and girls.
