Primary teachers continue work abstention for 2nd day
Primary school teachers across Bangladesh continued their work abstention on Monday (November 10), demanding implementation of the 10th grade pay scale and protesting Saturday’s police action at Shahbagh.
Although a faction of assistant teachers agreed to call off the strike after overnight talks with the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, those demonstrating at the Central Shaheed Minar rejected the decision and vowed to continue their protest.
Leaders of the Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Committee said field-level teachers’ opposition forced them to reverse the withdrawal decision, adding that the strike would continue until all demands are met.
The ongoing protest has disrupted classes nationwide ahead of annual exams, leaving students in hardship.
Teachers at the Shaheed Minar also demanded the resignation of Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Primary Education Adviser Prof Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar.
