Primary teachers hold grand rally, warn of strict action if demands ignored
Assistant teachers from government primary schools across the country are holding a grand rally today (August 30) at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka. They are demanding an increase in the minimum salary to grade 11, 100% promotion of assistant teachers to head teacher positions, and the speedy implementation of other work-related issues.
The rally is organized by a coalition of six primary teacher organizations, known as the 'Assistant Teacher Organization Unity Council.' Teachers from different districts across the country have joined, filling the Shaheed Minar premises with participants.
The teachers have warned that they will take strict action if their demands are not fulfilled. Speaking at the rally, BNP Organizational Secretary Selim Bhuiyan said, “If the current government does not meet the teachers’ demands, we will try to implement them after coming to power.” Leaders of other political parties are also expected to lend their support during the event.
Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Siddiq Ullah Mia spoke at the rally, saying, “If the teachers’ demands are not met, I will seek to achieve them through legal action.” Mohammad Shamsuddin Masud, convener of the Assistant Teacher Organization Unity Council, also addressed the participants.
