Primary teachers submit memorandum to CA with 3 key demands

Assistant teachers of government primary schools submitted a memorandum to the Chief Adviser on Saturday (August 30) outlining three key demands.
The demands include: Fix the minimum salary for assistant teachers at the 11th grade; Fill head teacher positions through 100% promotion from among assistant teachers; Resolve complications in obtaining higher grades for 10-year and 16-year service periods, along with the speedy implementation of other pending work-related demands.
The memorandum was handed over at the Chief Adviser’s residence in Jamuna.
Earlier, teachers had warned of stricter programmes if their demands were not addressed during a general meeting at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
The meeting, organized by the ‘Prathomik Assistant Shiksha Sangathan Oikya Parishad’—an alliance of six registered assistant teachers’ organizations—was presided over by Monir Hossain, president of the Primary School Assistant Shiksha Samiti. Leaders and representatives from various teachers’ organizations, including Shahinur Akhter, Tapan Mondal, Dr. Md. Sakhawat Hossain, and Professor ABM Fazlul Karim, attended the meeting and voiced solidarity.
They emphasized that assistant teachers are currently paid at the 13th grade starting at 11,000 taka, and raising them to the 11th grade is essential to ensure quality primary education and attract talent to the profession.
