Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit Chandpur on Saturday (May 16), marking his first visit to the district in 22 years, according to local party sources.

Authorities have completed security arrangements ahead of the high-profile trip, deploying multi-layer security measures across key locations in the district.

Security will be overseen by the Special Security Force (SSF), alongside local administration, police, and intelligence units. Additional law enforcement personnel have also been deployed to ensure public safety and order.

The visit has also created significant political momentum in the area, with BNP leaders and activists decorating major roads and neighbourhoods with banners, posters, and arches. Public interest and anticipation remain high, with expectations of key development announcements for the district.

According to sources, Tarique Rahman is expected to take part in several development-related activities, including an inspection of local canal re-excavation projects and participation in discussions on the government’s “Family Card” social welfare programme.

He is also likely to attend a meeting with local party leaders during the visit.
