Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to address nation this evening
Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will address the nation today (February 18) at 7:00pm, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed.
The speech will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV), and all national broadcasters have been requested by the Ministry of Information to relay the address.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial, observing a one-minute silence. At 12:05 pm, he laid wreaths at the graves of the late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, accompanied by members of his cabinet, followed by a prayer session.
In the afternoon, he is scheduled to chair the first policy-making cabinet meeting of the new government at 3:00pm with all ministers, followed by a discussion session with senior secretaries at 4:00pm. Earlier administrative engagements included a meeting with officials of the Cabinet Division at 12:30pm for introductions and briefings.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was sworn in on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at a ceremony held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin. A total of 49 ministers and state ministers took oath in the ceremony, forming the new cabinet with 25 full ministers and 24 state ministers.
Under his leadership, the Prime Minister will also oversee the Cabinet Division, Ministry of Defence, and the Armed Forces Division. The Ministry of Public Administration has already issued notifications detailing the full allocation of ministerial portfolios.
