Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit Kishoreganj today

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit Kishoreganj on Sunday (August 16) for a series of programmes, including distributing Family Cards, inaugurating National Fisheries Week 2026 and participating in tree-planting and fish-fry release activities.

The prime minister is scheduled to leave Dhaka by road in the morning and visit Kishoreganj Sadar, Pakundia and Katiadi during his daylong tour, according to an official itinerary signed by his Protocol Officer-1 Md Uzzal Hossain.

His first engagement is scheduled for 11:30am at Mirzapur Chairmanbari Ghat in Pakundia, where he will release and distribute fish fry in the Old Brahmaputra River before exchanging greetings with local residents.

At 12:30pm, the prime minister will visit the Carp Hatchery Complex in Katiadi. He will then attend the opening ceremony of National Fisheries Week 2026 and a prize-giving event at Achmita George Institution ground at around 1pm.

After lunch and a brief rest at the district Circuit House, Tarique Rahman will travel to Kishoreganj town, where he is scheduled to distribute Family Cards and provide grants to various individuals and institutions at the Old Stadium at 4pm.

He will also inaugurate a programme to provide honourariums to imams, muezzins and khadims of mosques, as well as personnel serving at various religious institutions.

Earlier at 2:30pm, Tarique Rahman will inaugurate a development project at the historic Sholakia Eidgah and join a tree-planting programme organised by the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

The visit is Tarique Rahman’s first trip to Kishoreganj since taking office, prompting heightened preparations across the district. Local authorities have repaired damaged stretches of roads in Kishoreganj Sadar, Katiadi and Pakundia and carried out extensive cleaning along the routes earmarked for the prime minister’s movement.

The ruling BNP and its affiliated organisations have also completed preparations to welcome the prime minister, party lawmakers said.

Kishoreganj-1 lawmaker Mohammad Mazharul Islam and Kishoreganj-2 lawmaker Advocate Jalal Uddin said the visit could bring important announcements on the district’s development, road connectivity, employment, education and fisheries management.

The prime minister’s packed itinerary is expected to keep Kishoreganj in focus throughout the day, with several major public and development programmes scheduled across three upazilas.
