Prime Minister visits graves of BDR mutiny victims
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the graves of army officers killed in the BDR mutiny in Pilkhana.
The Prime Minister along with his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman went to the Banani Military Cemetery around 9:15am on Thursday (May 28).
First, he visited the grave of his father-in-law, former Chief of the Navy Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, and participated in the prayer, seeking forgiveness for his soul.
Then the Prime Minister and his wife went to the grave yard of the army officers killed in the BDR mutiny and paid their respects. There, they stood in front of the memorial and participated in a special prayer and prayed for the peace of the souls of the deceased.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam and many others were present at the time.
It is worth mentioning that on February 25 and 26, 2009, 57 army officers, including Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed, were killed in a mutiny at the then BDR (now BGB) headquarters in Peelkhana, Dhaka. It is later learned that a total of 74 people died. Most of the slain army officers were buried at the Banani Military Cemetery.
