BNP announces to cap Prime Minister’s term to 10 years
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has pledged that, if elected, the Prime Minister’s term will be capped at 10 years and a Vice-President position will be created. The party also promised to introduce an upper house of parliament, appoint a Deputy Speaker from the opposition, and ensure 20 percent female representation in the upper house.
These commitments were highlighted in BNP’s election manifesto ahead of the upcoming National Parliamentary Election.
The manifesto was formally unveiled on Friday (February 6) at a program held at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka, where BNP chairman Tarique Rahman presented its various proposals.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has outlined significant governance reforms in its election manifesto, emphasizing the reinstatement of full trust and faith in Almighty Allah as a fundamental principle of state administration in the Constitution.
The manifesto also pledges to implement the July National Charter, repeal undemocratic constitutional amendments, reform the state based on the 31-point framework, restore the caretaker government system, and ensure a balance of state powers.
Additionally, the BNP promises to guarantee judicial independence, introduce an upper house in parliament, appoint a Deputy Speaker from the opposition, amend Article 70 of the Constitution, ensure transparency in international agreements, establish an independent Election Commission, and undertake reforms of constitutional institutions.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) manifesto emphasizes the establishment of a future-oriented political culture, moving away from politics of revenge and retaliation. It pledges to restore voting as the sole legitimate source of state power, ensure accountability at all levels of government, protect freedom of media and expression, and form a welfare-oriented, inclusive government in collaboration with political parties committed to democracy restoration.
Regarding governance reforms, the manifesto states that nation-building goes beyond mere state administration. BNP aims to transcend divisions to create a unified national identity, ending political and social fragmentation based on religion, region, or class, and fostering national unity under Bangladeshi nationalism.
Additionally, the party promises to establish social justice, eliminate inequality, and form a 'Truth and Healing Commission' to address and reconcile the wounds of the past.
