Prisoners to meet families, get free phone calls during Eid

Around 80,000 prisoners across the country will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr this year in jails.

The Prisons Directorate has announced special arrangements for inmates, including festive meals, cultural programmes, and opportunities to meet family members and make phone calls.

On Eid day, breakfast will include payesh or semai, while lunch will consist of white rice, beef (mutton for inmates of other faiths), chicken roast, alur dom and rui fish. Pan and supari will also be distributed.

Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Md Motahar Hossain said prisoners will be able to meet their relatives for three days during Eid and will have the opportunity to make free three-minute phone calls. Additionally, cultural programmes have been arranged to create a festive atmosphere among the inmates.
