Probe report into Ad-Din Hospital's six newborns death to be submitted within 3 days: Health Minister
Investigation report into the deaths of six children at Ad-Din Hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area will be submitted within the next three days, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday (June 1), the first working day after the Eid holidays, the minister described the incident as “deeply tragic” and said the government was treating the matter with the highest priority.
He said separate investigations are being conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to determine the exact cause of the deaths.
The minister noted that both he and the DGHS director general had visited the hospital following the incident. In addition to the ministry-formed probe committee, the DGHS is carrying out its own inquiry, taking into consideration various factors, including statements from the children's mothers.
Sakhawat said the investigation team is collecting additional information to ensure a comprehensive and evidence-based report. The findings are expected to be submitted by June 3, after which detailed information will be made public.
He also said discussions had been held with the Attorney General regarding the legal aspects of the case and that necessary action would be taken in accordance with the law once the investigation is completed.
Responding to questions over the absence of post-mortem examinations, the minister said the government had initiated the process, but none of the parents consented to autopsies despite efforts to obtain their approval.
He added that a case has already been filed over the incident and the investigation remains ongoing. Further legal steps will be determined based on the findings of the probe report.
