The process of bringing back to Bangladesh the accused involved in the Osman Hadi murder case, who are absconding in India, is ongoing under the prisoner exchange agreement, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said.

He made the remarks on Thursday, March 26, after paying tribute to police members martyred in the Liberation War by laying a wreath at the Rajarbagh Police Memorial in the capital on the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day.

The home minister said, "A formal request has been sent through the foreign ministry via diplomatic channels to bring back the accused in the Osman Hadi murder case."

Salahuddin Ahmed said, "The first genocide began at Rajarbagh Police Lines on the black night of March 25, 1971. It was in the context of this incident that the declaration of independence came. Then Major Ziaur Rahman, upon learning of the genocide, announced an uprising in Chattogram and formally declared independence from Kalurghat radio station on March 27, seeking world support. He referred to this as the 'true history' of Bangladesh's independence."

Recalling the sacrifices of the martyrs, he said, "The Liberation War began with the shedding of blood by police members at Rajarbagh. The nation will forever remember their sacrifice with respect."
