Prof Md Nurul Islam appointed Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor

Prof Dr Md Nurul Islam has been appointed vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU), replacing his current role as vice-chancellor of Dhaka Central University.

The appointment was announced in a gazette notification issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry on Saturday (September 26).

According to the notification, President and the university Chancellor approved the appointment under Section 11(1) of the Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973.

Prof Nurul Islam, a professor in JU’s Department of Geography and Environment, will serve as vice-chancellor for four years from the date of joining or until his retirement, whichever comes first.

During his tenure, he will receive the salary and other benefits equivalent to his current position and will serve as the university’s full-time chief executive officer, with a requirement to reside on campus.

The chancellor may cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary, according to the notification.
