Prof. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane appointed as DU Pro-Vice Chancellor
Dhaka University (DU) has appointed Professor Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane of the Department of Botany as its new Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration), according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Thursday (May 7).
The appointment comes under four conditions, replacing interim Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Saima Haque Bidisha.
The notification said the appointment was made with the approval of the President and Chancellor of the university under Article 13(1) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973. He will serve a four-year term from the date of joining.
As per the terms, Prof. Alfasane will receive salary and benefits equivalent to his current position and must remain stationed at the university campus full-time. He will exercise administrative powers as assigned under university statutes and in line with directives from the Vice-Chancellor. The President and Chancellor will retain the authority to cancel the appointment at any time if necessary.
Prof. Alfasane is a former general secretary of the Nationalist Research Foundation and currently serves as Joint Secretary General of the University Teachers Association of Bangladesh (UTAB). He is also an advisor to the Ziaur Rahman Foundation.
A former student of Dhaka University’s Botany Department, he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the same institution before joining as a faculty member and later earning his PhD from the university.
