Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam becomes 27th VC of BAU
Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Sardar of the Faculty of Fisheries of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has been appointed as the 27th Vice-Chancellor of the university. He has been appointed to this post for the next four years.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday (September 8).
Professor Rafiqul Islam Sardar is currently serving as a senior teacher of the Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics of the university. At the same time he is also in the post of student affairs adviser of BAU. Earlier he has performed various important responsibilities including Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, Head of the Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics, Director of the Fish Museum and Germplasm Centre and Provost of Fazlul Haque Hall.
Professor Rafiqul Islam Sardar has been serving as the president of BAU Teachers’ Association since February 1, 2024. According to the information of the public relations and publication department of the university, fish breeding, molecular genetics and biotechnology are the main fields of his research.
Under his supervision more than 35 postgraduate students and eight PhD researchers have completed their research. He has also innovated four fish technologies suitable for application at the field level. In addition he has served as the principal investigator in 21 research projects conducted with the funding of various national and international organizations.
Professor Rafiqul Islam Sardar is associated with various research and professional organizations of the country and abroad. As part of professional responsibility he has visited various countries including the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, the United States and Canada. In these visits he has taken part in various international seminars, conferences and symposiums.
With the appointment of Professor Rafiqul Islam Sardar as the new Vice-Chancellor a new chapter has begun in the administrative leadership of Bangladesh Agricultural University. For the next four years he will lead the educational, research and administrative activities of the university.
