Proposal to purchase 60 cars for ministers canceled: Finance Adviser
The government has decided to cancel the proposal to purchase 60 vehicles for the ministers of the upcoming cabinet, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed announced on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Government Procurement Advisory Committee at the Secretariat, Dr. Salehuddin said the Ministry of Public Administration's plan to buy 60 cars for the future ministers has been scrapped.
However, the government has approved the procurement of 300 vehicles for field administration to facilitate election-related duties.
Dr. Salehuddin also revealed plans to send 100,000 workers to Japan. He emphasized that job opportunities in Japan will be available for those proficient in the Japanese language as well as possessing various skill sets.
On the topic of bank consolidation, the advisor disclosed that Bangladesh Bank has made a policy decision to merge five Islamic banks. Additionally, discussions are underway to consolidate 22 non-bank financial institutions.
He reassured depositors that the consolidation process would not affect their deposits, assuring that customers’ money will remain secure regardless of the banks’ mergers.
