Protesters again blocked roads in the Mirpur area of the capital, demanding justice for schoolgirl Ramisa Akter, who was allegedly raped and brutally murdered on Friday (May 22).

Demonstrators gathered at Mirpur-10 intersection after Friday prayers and chanted slogans demanding the highest punishment for those accused in the case.

The protest follows a similar demonstration held on Thursday evening, when protesters blocked the road from Mirpur-10 to Mirpur-12, causing severe traffic congestion and halting vehicular movement for several hours.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited Ramisa’s residence in Block-B of Mirpur-11 to console her grieving parents on Thursday night around 9:45pm.

Her parents reportedly broke down in tears during the meeting.

Among those present were Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Law Minister Asaduzzaman, State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Milton, retired Brigadier General Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, and local leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Police recovered the body of Ramisa Akter from a third-floor apartment in a building in Mirpur-11 on Tuesday morning.

Preliminary investigations suggest the child was raped and then brutally murdered, while attempts were also made to conceal the body after the killing.

Police have already arrested neighbouring tenant Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter in connection with the incident.
