Protesting students lock UGC gate
Agitating students seeking admission to the university have locked the gate of the University Grants Commission (UGC) building demanding the continuation of the cluster admission test system for 24 universities. They are protesting by locking the gate of the UGC building as no decision has been made by the Ministry of Education.
They locked the gate of the UGC building on Monday (January 27) afternoon. Earlier, on Sunday (January 26), the students announced a UGC blockade and sit-in program. The protesting students said that although the UGC discussed with us on Sunday, we have not seen any complete results. As a result, we have taken a stand here again today and locked the gate. We will continue the protest until the results come.
Movement coordinator Siam Hassan said, we were assured yesterday by the UGC and the Ministry of Education that a decision would be announced by today. They said that they would force the universities to keep the cluster system through strict instructions. But even though noon has passed today, we have not received any instructions. After a while, the UGC will say that the office hours are over. So we want instructions to come by today. We will not open the UGC gate until our demands are met.
